Nationwide Children’s Hospital & Germain Nissan in Columbus, OH

During the Month of May for every vehicle sold Germain Nissan is donating $100 to Nationwide's Children Header

It’s time to break the silence about children’s mental health.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital is an integral part of the Columbus community-- an organization that proactively works to promote health and wellbeing of our children. In the last few years NCH has taken a strong stand to promote not just the physical, but also mental health of our children. 1 in 5 kids suffers from a significantly impairing mental disorder, and less than half get the treatment they need. Mental health is a crisis in America and we decided that we needed to do something more than just talk about it.

During the month of May, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Germain Nissan will donate $100 for every new and pre-owned vehicle sold to the On Our Sleeves campaign at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Because these kids can’t wear their thoughts on their sleeves, we are raising our voices to help them.

In some way, mental illness touches everyone. You may have a family member, friend or child who is living with a mental illness. For children, especially, the statistics are sobering.

One in five children is living with a mental illness, and 50 percent of all lifetime mental illnesses start by age 14. We are in a national crisis.

At Nationwide Children’s Hospital, we believe in caring for the whole child - that mental health is just as important as physical health. Yet across America, children’s mental health is an often overlooked and vastly underfunded component of pediatric health. Further troubling, only one child psychiatrist is available for every 15,000 youths younger than 18. Lack of healthcare resources and funding only complicate and hinder efforts to make significant changes that impact our youth during these critically important formative years.

It’s time to have a conversation about our children, to raise our voices for this important cause.

As one of America’s leading voices in pediatric mental health, we are determined to offer hope. We have developed On Our Sleeves to create a network of support around the millions of families around the country living with mental illness by addressing the stigma associated with this diagnosis and providing the tools necessary to improve behavioral health outcomes.

To develop a national model for pediatric mental health care and research, Nationwide Children’s Hospital will expand clinical access for families, develop targeted prevention efforts and initiate research to better understand the causes and most effective treatment of behavioral health conditions. Learnings gained from the clinicians and scientists at Nationwide Children’s will be freely shared to improve care for children everywhere. It’s our mission and the purpose of On Our Sleeves.

Join us in this empowering movement for children’s mental health.
